AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WFXG) - One person is dead, and a suspect is in custody after a shooting in Wagener.

Officials say the shooting happened Tuesday around 7:30 p.m. at a home on Jeffcoat Road. When deputies arrived to the scene, they found a male with multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the head.

The victim, 53-year-old Timothy Davenport, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. After arriving for treatment, he died in the hospital, said the Aiken County Sheriff's Office. 

A witness told deputies the gunman was wearing a white tank top and black sweatpants and ran before they arrived, according to officials.

Deputies found the suspect, 22-year-old Jonathan Daquan Staley, later that night around 11:15 p.m. on Highway 302 near Wagener. People in the area notified deputies of Staley's whereabouts as he walked along the highway, according to deputies.

Staley was taken to the Aiken County Detention Center. He is expected to be charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Davenport will be autopsied in Newberry.
