AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) - Summer is nearing, and vacation season is almost here. Augusta Regional Airport has some reminders about what you can bring in your carry-on bag to go through the TSA checkpoint.

Waiting in a long TSA line can feel like a lifetime.

Preparing your items for the screening process can make things easier, and faster for everyone.

“We really want to remind passengers what  is and what isn't allowed on-board aircraft. Because whenever we have prohibited items come through the checkpoint, it slows down the screening process. It starts as a ripple, then becomes a tidal wave in terms of wait times,” said Mark Howell, TSA Regional Spokesperson.

Augusta Regional Airport explained that the main confiscated items are liquids. With quite a few water bottles attempting to go through the checkpoint.

Just make sure all of your liquid containers are under the approved volume of 3.4fl.

“If you plan to travel without checked luggage, if you just have a carry on, keep in mind that your liquids have to be limited to 3.4 ounces or 100ml in a one quart sized bag,” said Howell.

“We probably take more liquids than anything else,” said Arnie Stein, Lead TSA Officer at Augusta Regional Airport.

There have been some questionable items that workers at the checkpoint don't see often, but have still come through the screenings. Some of these include pool cues, tools like shovels, weed-wackers, golf clubs, knives and even a make-shift dragonfly made out of butter knives.

And those aren’t the only items that are prohibited when it comes to going through TSA.

Arnie Stein: “Replica guns, guns in general are prohibited. And the same goes for any other weapon that is a replica weapon,” said Stein.

Mark Howell: “Last year was a record year for firearms here in Augusta we had a total of 12 come through the checkpoint. We are already at 6 so far this year, and we are on pace to break that record again this year. We want passengers to know you can bring firearms with you when you travel, they just have to be packed the right way,” said Howell.

If you are packing a firearm it has to be in a hard sided case with padding with no rounds chambered in the gun. Ammunition needs to be stored separately and all locked in the case. Then you have to bring it to your airline and declare it. They take it from there and place it under the plane.
