AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WFXG) - Aiken's County Council made an important decision Tuesday night. They've decided to dismiss the water and sewer tax agreement with the House of Raeford.

People gathered at Aiken County's Government building regarding the second hearing on Project Sunny.

This project is set to house, The House of Raeford, a chicken processing plant that is located in West Columbia.

If this ordinance had passed, the city would then service the plants with water and sewer at a discounted rate.

The majority of the council voted to dismiss the ordinance in its entirety. But this left residents to wonder what will happen next.

"This means that this ordinance is dead as Marley's ghost" Council Chairman, Gary Bunker said.

Chairman Bunker made it clear that it doesn't mean the business can't come to the area.

"The county cannot support them from a sewer standpoint. They can come but they can't operate." Councilwoman P.K Hightower responded.

Community members had the opportunity to go before the council to speak about topics that weren't discussed.

The council asked that the people only speak about items that weren't discussed at the meeting. Some residents had other plans.

"In this instance, this company has a repeated history of violation after violation," Carson S, a resident of Aiken County said.
