GEORGIA (WFXG) - A new Georgia House Bill that would ban transgender girls from participating in high school sports with biological girls is working its way through the Georgia legislature…

House Bill 1104 was originally passed for suicide prevention in high schools. but then underwent significant changes in the senate, where it passed Tuesday night in a 33 to 21 vote. But it still has another stop before being finalized.

If passed, Bill 1104 will ban transgender girls from participating in high school sports with biological girls.

It would also give parents more information on what their children rent from libraries, and place more limitations on sex education in schools.

In response to the bill, the Lieutenant Governor of Georgia, Burt Jones, has issued a statement saying “biological males have no business competing alongside females.”

It's important to note: the bill does not ban transgender men from competing in girl's sports.

But this bill isn't just about participating in sports…

The measure also states that sex education will not be allowed in schools until sixth grade. And in another section, it restricts bathroom and locker room access.

The bill now heads back to the house...Where it is unclear if it will receive enough bipartisan support to pass is.
