AIKEN, S.C. - One local spot is serving up several flavors of a dessert that melts in your mouth.

The husband and wife duo that owns it say people who've tried it keep coming back for more.

Vampire Penguin in Aiken doesn't serve ice cream and they don't serve shaved ice.

It's not what you expect. "The texture is just different. It just melts in your mouth," co-owner Ryan Moseley said.

"If you can imagine snow falling from heaven, tasting like strawberry cheesecake, dulce de leche or banana creme pie, that's what it would be like. It's so light and fluffy," co-owner Jeannette Moseley said.

The dessert can be topped with graham cracker crust, white chocolate, fresh strawberries or any topping you could think of.

The Moseleys got the idea to open a Vampire Penguin when they tried the dessert in Florida when they used to live there.

"I said, I think we should open a vampire penguin," Jeannette said to her husband Ryan. "And he said, no, no and no. He said no three times. He said it was too big of a risk."

A risk now turned into a spot for lots of happy customers.

"They're happy when they come, and they're happy when they leave," Jeannette Moseley said.

The dessert is gluten free, with three to four times less calories than ice cream or frozen yogurt.

"The fun thing about these desserts is this is something you can enjoy like we said before dinner, after dinner. This is not filling. It's so satisfying," Ryan Moseley said.

The satisfying strawberry cheesecake is their number one order.

"There's a little something for everyone. And we like that," Ryan Moseley said.

There are also Vampire Penguin locations in North Augusta, Evans and Grovetown.

There are also vegan and sugar-free options.
