NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - A family from France is bringing French cuisine to a brand-new restaurant in North Augusta's Hammonds Ferry.

The bistro-style bar and restaurant is making a comeback in Paris and also in the CSRA.

You're going to want to start and end with dessert at Bistro 55. Get cozy in their romantic bistro-style dining room as you wait for a steaming hot crock of French onion soup.

"We chat with people, tell them my whole life story, they tell me their stories, and you know, we make friends and they come back and that's what we're really here for, you know," co-owner Maurice Cohen said.

The menu - all French cuisine, inspired by the French family that runs the restaurant.

"If you don't like it, I mean. We'll try again," Chef Richard laughed.

The meals are made with fresh, locally grown ingredients.

Everything from filet mignon, to seafood dish sole meunière and snail.

"They don't bite, don't worry," Cohen laughed. "Snail in garlic butter sauce. Escargot."

Next up for Bistro 55 - a brunch menu that's in the works.

Cohen previously owned a restaurant in Los Angeles.

The family said reservations aren't required, but it's always better to have one as their business grows.

Come back with us next week as we Eat. Play. Go. our way through the CSRA!
