FORT GORDON, Ga. - A soldier says joining the army was not just a career path. It also meant doing something bigger for herself and her daughter. FOX54 salutes Private First Class Cynthia Serrano.

PFC. Cynthia Serrano’s army story began with an interest in computer science.

"I’m here [Fort Gordon] as a 25 Bravo which is an information technology specialist...I’m very into, like, coding and being able to do like ethical hacking and working with tools that allow me to do that.” said PFC. Serrano.

She’s proud to serve her country. She’s also grateful for her own growth with her daughter as a witness.

"If mom can do it, she can do it as well...I want her to see anything and everything is possible.” said PFC. Serrano.

PFC. Serrano wants to show her leadership in both education and rank.

"I have a short term goal right now, which is to get my associate’s and then move forward in getting my bachelor’s and then using that to become an officer.” said PFC. Serrano.

After Fort Gordon, she heads home to Virginia - continuing to grow a future and family.
