One person killed in South Augusta crash

SOUTH AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A man is dead after crashing his car into a tree at the intersection of Old Waynesboro Road and Hephzibah McBean Road in South Augusta on Sunday, Sept. 30. Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen identified the man as 45-year-old Shannon Golphin.

According to Bowen’s report, Golphin failed to stop at the stop sign on Old Waynesboro Road, went through the intersection at Hephzibah McBean Road and continued off the road before striking a tree.

Golphin was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at 10:55 a.m. The report says the accident was called in around 10:30 a.m. The public information officer with Richmond County says they believe it happened much earlier in the morning, and that Golphin died on impact.
