RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WFXG) - The Richmond County Sheriff's Office has arrested a suspect in connection to the July 4 shooting at the Augusta Mall.

Authorities have arrested and charged Derek Blue in the crime. FOX54 has obtained the police report in reference to the mall shooting.

In the report, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office identified 23-year-old, Derek Blue Jr., as the suspect.

Once officers arrived on the scene, they found Rico Walton laying behind the counter in the store Snipes with two gunshot wounds to the leg. He received treatment on scene, and before he was taken to the hospital he named Derek Blue Jr. as the shooter.

Walton and Blue are believed to have known each other before the incident.

Witnesses told deputies Walton was in the checkout line when Blue stood behind him. They said that Walton asked Blue "Why are you following me?"

They said Blue responded and stated "I'm not following you, I'm shopping."

Witnesses say Walton then told Blue "I bet you if I hit you with that switch you won't be following me anymore."

After that statement, witnesses said Blue pulled a gun from his waistband, pointed it at Walton, fired 2 rounds and ran from the scene.

Blue is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
