MARTINEZ, Ga. (WFXG) - As Columbia County continues to grow, there's a section of Furys Ferry Road that has seen an influx of new business, including food and shopping options.

Local business owner and developer, Rafy Bassali says it's filling a big need. “There’s a lot of residential here and there’s a few grocery stores that kind of serve the needs but, there isn’t a lot of live, work, play," he says. "So, there’s not the play aspect of shopping, restaurants, stuff like that.”

Businesses like The Swank Company and Posh Tots have relocated to this part of Furys Ferry Road. Rooted Coffeehouse has opened a third location in the area, plus the recent addition of Kettle Creek Creamery.

“Surrey Center would be most comparable to this, just mainly local businesses that all are trying to serve the need of this area.”

Bassali says they began the process back in 2020. In total, there will be 15 retail spaces and a large green space. "We wanted to create something a little different that’s why there’s a roundabout and kind of an unconventional layout.”

He says, local restaurants, a pharmacy, spa and gym are coming soon.

So far, the response from the public has been positive. “I love how it’s open and it’s just super easy to find everything," Summer Hayes, a sales associate says. "I also love the community aspect, there’s stores next to us that really also have like a family atmosphere and it’s just really cool seeing people drive up in their golf carts, all the kids coming in, it’s just crazy how friendly it is.”

And businesses are doing well. “Rooted always seems like there busy, we’ve been super busy, so I think so far, so good,” Bassali says.

By the end of the year, two more buildings will be complete and another will go up by Masters 2025.
