AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) - It’s time to crank the AC!

Homes across the CSRA have been turning on their HVAC systems as temperatures are getting hotter.

Now is the time to also make sure your system is getting the attention it needs.

“I cannot stress enough how important it is to keep those units serviced,” said Hank Gautreaux, with Baileys Comfort Services.

A necessity for comfort in the south. Both the heat and humidity make the heat index values well into the triple digits.

In order to keep your HVAC system working properly, regular maintenance is needed.

“Having your unit serviced and cleaned, and staying on top of changing your filters could be as much as a 30% reduction in energy usage for that unit,” said Gautreaux.

Meaning saving money.

HVAC systems keep allergens out, as well as cools and heats the house to keep the climate favorable.

One customer we spoke with said getting proper maintenance on her cooling system comes with multiple benefits.

“We need it to cool, but we also need it for the humidity to reduce the humidity in your home. Because if you allow mold and mildew to fester, and you don't have an HVAC system and you use a dehumidifier, you have to have one in every room. So as a central air system, it helps keep the humidity down inside the house,” said Sandy Ham, a customer of Baileys Comfort Services.

“You wanna dehumidify,” Hank Gautreaux added, “That's a huge benefit to these kinds of systems. There is so much dehumidification, it's really just like ringing the moisture out of the air in your home.”

HVAC experts also tell us depending on the age of your system, it may be more cost efficient to purchase a newer system.

Representatives with Baileys Comfort Services tell me there’s multiple filters to choose from, including a 30 day filter to a 90 day filter and all the way up to an annual filter.
