RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WFXG) - A new superior court has been decided to represent  Richmond County and Burke County.

With 100% precincts reporting Charles Lyons will take on the role of Superior Court Judge. The seat became available after Judge Daniel Craig announced his retirement back in January. 

According to precincts in Burke County, Lyons has 59% of the vote and Matt Matson has 41% of vote.

Lyons has  65% of the vote in Richmond County and Matson has 35% according to precincts.


Richmond County voters will decide between Matt Matson and Charles Lyons in the runoff election for Superior Court Judge.

Both candidates say they have the necessary experience for the position.

“Our crime rate has consistently dropped for the last 12 years. Gun violence is a nationwide issue, but in Richmond County, overall crime has decreased every year,” Lyons said. “That’s what people lose sight of.”

Matson emphasized the importance of professionalism in the judiciary. “It’s important we maintain a professional demeanor within our department. That’s the only way we can have meaningful communication and help stop some of the acts of careless violence in our community,” he said.

Polls close at 7 p.m. tonight, so there is still time to cast your vote.
