AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) - The weekend is here and may people will be out and about.

If you decide to partake in activities going on downtown Augusta this weekend or visit to grab something to eat, Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson says "our downtown is safe."

Mayor Johnson says starting Friday night, there will be increased security and patrols by Richmond County Sheriff's Office and Georgia State Patrol downtown Augusta and throughout the city. The mayor says after 10 p.m., minors must be accompanied by an adult.

"Most downtown restaurants stop serving food at 10 p.m. Minors should be accompanied by an adult after that time," says Mayor Johnson. "Those who
enjoy our bars and clubs, please enjoy safely, but remember to make plans for a designated driver or utilize a rideshare program."
