STATESBORO, Ga. (WFXG) - The Statesboro Police Department made an arrest in a case that they've been investigating for 4 years.

On June 14, 2020, SPD officers responded to a 2-year-old child not breathing at a home on Best Street in Statesboro. The police department says the child was later transported to a hospital in Augusta where they later died.

Nearly four years later on June 4, 2024 police arrested Dorothy Deshay Johnson, 27 of Statesboro in connection to the death.

According to the report, detectives began an investigation on the child's medical and family history. Medical examiners worked hard and long to determine the cause of death of the child. After examination, the police department said they turned over their findings to the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit’s District Attorney’s Office.

Earlier this week, the Bulloch County Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment against Johnson. She is charged with Felony Murder, Cruelty to Children- 1st Degree, and Aggravated Assault. Johnson is at the Bulloch County Jail.
