COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WFXG) - UPDATE: As of 12:30 p.m., Columbia County officials tell FOX54 Fury Ferry Road is back open.


UPDATE: As of 11:15 a.m., Columbia County officials tell FOX54 the gas leak is contained.


As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, a gas leak has closed Furys Ferry Road at Oleander Trail in Columbia County.

Major Steve Morris with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office confirms a vehicle hit a gas main in the area, causing the leak.

The road closure begins at Furys Ferry Road and Evans to Locks Road and Furys Ferry Road and North Belair Road. Authorities are asking drivers to seek a different route.

County leaders tell FOX54 fire rescue was on scene Wednesday morning, evacuating homes in the area.

Columbia County officials do not know when the road will reopen.
