AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WFXG) - The South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of Charles Richard Wilson, 58 of Aiken, South Carolina. Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators along with the Aiken Department of Public Safety made the arrest. The Aiken County Sheriff's Office assisted with the investigation. 

Investigators received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children which led them to Wilson. Investigators say Wilson distributed files of child sexual abuse material.

Aiken County Public Schools says Wilson was a teacher at North Augusta High School. He started teaching in the district in May 2023. Aiken County Public School District tells FOX54 that Wilson was placed on administrative leave following his arrest Wednesday.

"These charges are extremely concerning. Wilson’s professional and criminal background, checked prior to his employment, did not include any prior arrests, charges, or convictions, or reveal any concerns related to activities of this kind. During his employment of approximately one year with our school system, there have been no reported concerns or employee infractions."

Wilson was arrested on May 22, 2024.  He is charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. He faces up to 10 years in prison for each count.
