SOUTH CAROLINA (WFXG) - Lawmakers in the South Carolina House are still debating a bill that would legalize medical marijuana in the Palmetto State.

This week, lawmakers listened to hours of testimony from law enforcement officers and doctors. Many law enforcement officers oppose the bill, including SLED Chief Mark Keel.

Keel testified that legalizing medical marijuana could lead to overproduction. He argues that could result in more black market sales.

However, others argue against that, focusing on the fact the bill would only legalize smokeless cannabis.

Lawmakers will have to make a decision soon, as the South Carolina legislative session is set to end on May 9th.
