GEORGIA (WFXG) - With summer just a few months away many of you may be preparing for vacation—and that perfect road trip. That also means you may be keeping a close eye on the prices at the pump.

The average gas price in Georgia is up compared to last week, with drivers paying an average of $3.43 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline.

“I guess the world we live in prices going up and down every day you never know what to expect,” said resident Anthony DuBois.

To fill up a 15-gallon tank, the current price is 10 cents more from a week ago, a $1.14 more from a month ago and 63 cents from this same time a year ago.

A number of factors could play into prices over the coming months including demand, hurricane season and summer travel.

According to triple a, 53% of Georgia residents and 58% of South Carolina residents plan to take a road trip for their vacations this year.

Greg Wilson says he’s “supposed to go see my son and my grand baby in Virginia in June, when we go to Virginia about 3 times [to fill up the tank].”

In Augusta, the prices are right at that state average.

In South Carolina, people are paying almost 15 cents less than Georgians with an average of 3.288 dollars per gallon.

On the bright side, according to AAA, Georgia residents are paying almost a quarter’s worth less than the national average, which is $3.68 dollars per gallon.

“I moved from California like 5 years ago so it’s quite a steep decrease from what it was out there, so I mean people complain about it and it sucks but i remember it like less and less and less as we came to the east coast,” said Stephanie Nobles.

According to consumer reports, some tips to save money on gas include to shop around for gas prices, obey the speed limits, and try to buy good-quality gas.
