AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) - With the Masters Tournament now wrapped, that means many of the people that visited Augusta over the last week are heading back home.

The lengthy TSA line is why Augusta Regional Airport staff call the Monday after Masters Sunday the mass exodus.

“I was expecting it to be longer… well we didn’t really know what to expect,” said passenger, Lori Hull.

Masters patrons are now headed home to Ohio, Pennsylvania, and more, with lots of memories and merchandise.

“It was good, it was clean, all the flowers and horticulture and everything, really impressive. I was really blown away by the intensity of the fans and of the crowds, I never really knew golf was so exciting.”

Monday morning was the busiest, with the TSA line all the way down to baggage claim, but passengers said it was moving along.

TSA brought in more staff and some additional backup for a more efficient TSA check.

“They do bring in additional personnel to make sure everything moves at an expedited rate,” said Lauren Smith with AGS. “They also bring in K9s to help in case they have something alert, the K9s can go ahead and inspect that and keep the line moving.”

Around noon, the airport started to calm down as most travelers opted for earlier flights.

“We see the majority in the morning, and then it starts trickling off throughout the day, and then tomorrow it will be like a normal day at Augusta Regional,” said Smith.

Airport officials tell Fox54 that even though this year’s Masters is over, they are already planning for the influx of travelers for next year’s tournament.
