NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WFXG) - Hidden in the Sweetwater Square shopping center in North Augusta is a restaurant customers say takes them to another universe.

At The Feed Sack, customers can be casual, but still feel a little fancy while getting a plate of southern comfort food.

Inside, the restaurant is a cozy spot to eat a bite while getting serenaded with live piano.

"I get questioned all the time. Do you guys, is this like the music channel or do you have someone actually playing? And so, I tell them that there's someone playing in the bar," The Feed Sack North Augusta general manager Katie Dimmick said.

The cooks in the kitchen at the feed sack don't mess around. Burgers are always sizzling on the grill in the bustling kitchen.

The Feed Sack burger is their most popular burger, with lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese and their famous "Feed Sack sauce" that cooks said is similar to a thousand island dressing, but they won't divulge any secrets about other ingredients.

One top appetizer, the pork belly bites are smoked out back. They're served with pickled okra on a bed of arugula.

"It goes on, we normally get it on there at about 1 o'clock, noon, 1 o'clock. And then we smoke it for several hours," Dimmick said.

The Feed Sack also offers ox tail soup. The ox tail is another item they smoke out back.

Their menu is complete with banana pudding and giant locally made cake slices.

In the kitchen, the one thing they make the most of is their bread pudding.

"It's our executive chef Jeffrey Hairston, he came up with our bread pudding. We change the toppings seasonally," Dimmick said.

The toppings on the bread pudding can range from mixed berry, bourbon peach and caramel apple.

The cake slices they offer are made by Meechi with Bakinfor Aiken. The flavors do rotate.

"Some of the servers are like yeah, it's not a piece of cake. It's a slab of cake," Dimmick laughed.

The restaurant has live piano every Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. The Feed Sack is off exit five in North Augusta, but they also have an Aiken location.
