RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WFXG) - Leon Tripp and Tanya Tripp, accused of murdering Tanya's daughter on her 16th birthday in 2017, will not stand trial this week as scheduled.

Both are charged with malice murder in the death of Latania Janell Carwell. Carwell's body was found in a shallow grave behind a Golden Camp Road residence in 2018 after having been reported missing by her mother in April, 2017. The search for Carwell extended into metro Atlanta and lasted ten months.

Carwell's stepfather, Leon Tripp, and her mother were expected to appear in court on March 25th, but instead, parties will now await a ruling from the Georgia Supreme Court regarding whether or not statements made by Leon Tripp are admissible as evidence in the trial.

The judge denied a request for bond for the defendants.
