NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WFXG) - The 2024 “match day” for the Augusta University Medical College of Georgia was this morning at SRP Park in North Augusta, and graduates were matched to their residencies.

The theme: year 2000’s.

Some graduates dressed as Bilbo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee from Lord of the Rings… While others dressed up as Power Rangers… and even Ricky Bobby from Talladega Nights.

And when the clock struck noon… they got to open their letters! According to the students matched in 36 different states with 25 different specialties… and all graduates matched with residencies!

Here's what a couple of Medical Student graduates said about where they will be attending!

- “I matched my number one… Colorado Pediatrics!!!”

- “I matched at Vanderbilt for OBGYN.”

- “Medical College of Georgia”

- “I matched at Boston Childrens in Boston!”

- “I matched here at the medical College of Georgia for internal medicine.”

- “I'm going to be a pediatrician!”

And for some lovers, a perfect match!

“I'm getting into pediatrics and I can't wait to help treat children… I'm into family medicine, and we are a couple matching together, so I can't wait to go wherever we go together!” said Anish Sangari and Maddie Horinek, MCG graduates.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again, and that's what many students face… including one MCG graduate who’s hard work paid off.

“I did not get into medical school my first time applying, and so I actually took a three year gap year and worked a little bit and fell in love with emergency medicine and thankfully that's where I'm ending up!” said Adir Mohaban, MCG graduate.

Congratulations to all of those who matched today and we want to wish you all the best of luck in your residencies!
