BURKE COUNTY, Ga. - UPDATE: FOX54 has learned new details about a crash that resulted in a car going into Brier Creek. 

The Burke County Sheriff's Office, Sardis Police Department, and Burke EMA were called to the scene around 4:30. 

Once on scene, the Sardis Police Department says there were five students from UGA that ran out of their car to help the people inside of the submerged car. 











In a Facebook post, they thanked the students for their act of courage and called them true heroes. 

SPD says all the people that were inside the car were conscious and alert when they were taken from the scene. 


The Burke County Sheriff's Office is on sight of an accident on Briar Creek at Ellison Bridge boat ramp.

The roadway is now currently shut down.

Authorities are advising drivers to seek an alternate route at this time.
