AUGUSTA, Ga. - Five families were safely evacuated but are now displaced after a fire involving eight apartments at Azalea Park Apartments on November 9th.

Augusta Fire/EMA says crews were dispatched around 6PM to the Fayetteville Dr. address. There, they saw smoke and fire coming from the windows of a brick structure and a resident attempting to jump from a second floor window. That person was assisted by fire personnel, who were able to extinguish the blaze without any injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to authorities. Red Cross is assisting the families who have lost their homes.
