Deputies say wrong way driver let to head-on collision on Interstate 20

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. - On Sunday morning, Columbia County deputies were called to Interstate 20 westbound, just past the Grovetown exit for a head-on collision between a pickup truck and a semi-truck. According to investigators, the pick-up truck was headed eastbound in the westbound lane. The semi-truck driver was unable to avoid the smaller vehicle, striking it head-on.
The pickup was forced backwards onto the shoulder, while the semi-truck ended up in the median. According to a media release, "The [pickup truck] driver (Maria Acosta) and passenger Fulgencio Cruz (Thomson GA) had to be extricated from the pickup truck and were taken to Doctors Hospital for injuries sustained in the collision. The driver of the Semi-Truck was uninjured in the collision. The passenger (Cruz) was listed in critical condition at Doctors Hospital. Charges on Maria Acosta are pending the conclusion of the investigation. At this time one lane of I-20 is closed while crews continue to clear the vehicles and debris from the roadway."
