FORT GORDON, Ga. -  Serving by faith and by heart: That’s Captain Tom Kelly. He works at a chaplain on Fort Gordon, but his journey there may not be one you’d expect.

“My favorite verse…I came that they may have life and have it more abundantly.” said Cpt. Tom Kelly, Fort Gordon Chaplain.

Captain Tom Kelly is not your typical chaplain.

"I originally, back in college, studied aerospace engineering, and later on went and obtained a law degree and ended up working in the telecom industry for a while before I actually responded to God's call," said Cpt. Kelly.

Cpt. Kelly says he has always wanted to help people. For the past six years, he’s been there for our soldiers.

"It's a unique role that we have in the Army, which is awesome. I mean, one of my joys is to be able to have someone come to me who's troubled or worried or got something on their mind, and I can often, if not always, help them to feel better and adjust and come out of the situation, relieved.” said Cpt. Kelly.

These interactions, he says, give him a deeper sense of accomplishment.

"One person at a time...Ultimately, helping someone out and having an effect that I hope will be an eternal one.” said Cpt. Kelly.

FOX54 salutes Cpt. Tom Kelly.

"God has blessed me in many, many ways.." said Cpt. Kelly.
