Celebrating Hip Hop's 50th Anniversary - local podcast honors James Brown with his first award for Hip Hop contribution
AUGUSTA, Ga. -
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop music…and a podcast here in Augusta, The Boom Bap Hour Podcast, is celebrating with a concert featuring Hip Hop artist Positive K. The concert will also feature a lineup of local talent sharing the stage, happening on Friday, August 11 - the day that Hip Hop started in 1973. The event will feature a Hip Hop tribute honoring James Brown.
Fox54's producer Vonetta Hinton - also a host of the podcast met with Dr. Deanna Brown-Thomas, daughter of James Brown at the Godfather of Soul's exhibit at Augusta Museum of History.
Dr. Brown-Thomas gives us the breakdown of why her father is also the Godfather of Hip Hop. The Boom Bap Hour presented a posthumous award to James Brown, in honor of Hip Hop's 50th Anniversary. Brown-Thomas says that this is actually the very FIRST award her father has ever received to honor his contributions to Hip Hop culture...and that she was proud for this moment to happen here in his hometown of Augusta.
You can come out and celebrate the 50th Hip Hop Anniversary Celebration with Positive K and friends on August 11th at Grantski Records located at 1151 Broad Street. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Tickets are available for purchase here at eventbrite.com.
