AUGUSTA, Ga. - Paceline held its Pace Day Kick-Off Celebration in Augusta. The event raised funds with the goal of fighting cancer.

The cancer-fighting community gathered at Savannah River Brewing Company to participate in the Pace Day Kick-Off. They even included a social bike ride and yoga, all in the spirit of fighting cancer together.

"Tons of folks on their bikes today are dealing with it either directly or indirectly. Dealing with cancer and fighting," says Ian Mercier, Medical College of Georgia President and CEO.

Cyclists rode up to 25 miles for the cause. One of the groups is B.A.D. or in other words Bicycles Against Disparities. Justin Moore and Niajah Moore have been cycling for years now.

"It's one of the least things that we can do.... like ride 10, 15, 20, or 50 miles for cancer disparities or cancer in general. I think it's a big deal," says Moore.

According to President Martyn Jones, a significant increase in the 2022 fund-raising season is a good sign for this year.

"I feel positively about the future, because of the work that's happening and the impact we are having," says Jones.

Funds go to research projects like cancer prevention and advanced treatments at the Georgia Cancer Center. Jones says that the 2022 grant award winners will be announced later this month. Once we know, you will too.
