AAA Launches Tow-to-Go Program as Gas Prices Plummet on Memorial Day
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Today is the start of Memorial Day weekend and travelers are hitting the road and taking advantage of the lower gas prices. If you haven't noticed...gas prices have gone down ahead of the weekend.
This means more cars on the road, as well as traffic. According to AAA Georgia, more than 1.1 million Georgians are planning to hit the road for Memorial Day weekend.
FOX54 stopped at different locations to speak with travelers about their holiday plans.
"We are heading to Florida first. After we leave Florida, we might head on to Alabama because I have family that wants to see me," says Antonio Johnson.
George Sot says that he's "very content with the prices going down," taking advantage of the cheaper prices.
While you're out celebrating with family and friends during this holiday weekend, remember not to drink and drive. AAA is anticipating the need to rescue more than 450 thousand stranded drivers over the weekend. The agency is providing a free service called "Tow-to-Go" to keep impaired drivers off the road.
Tow to go is only available in Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wyoming, Denver, Colorado, Charlotte, NC, and Indiana at Fort Wayne and South Bend.
These services are provided from 6 a.m. today to 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 30th.
“By providing this program, AAA gives drivers no excuse for driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol or impairing medications,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman, AAA – The Auto Club Group.
