AIKEN, S.C. (WFXG) - UPDATE: We now have more information about the officer-involved shooting that happened Tuesday morning in Aiken County.

According to SLED, an Aiken Public Safety Officer was sitting in a patrol vehicle in a gas station parking at the corner of Whiskey Rd. and Pine Log Rd. when a man, later identified as thirty-year-old Richard McCarty of North Augusta, approached him. After a short conversation, McCarty reportedly got into his car and rammed the officer's patrol vehicle, disabling both of them. McCarty then reportedly got out of his car with a knife and chased the officer.

Two more officers responded to the scene to assist and eventually shot McCarty. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.. No officers were injured. The investigation is still ongoing.
