MARTINEZ, Ga. (WFXG) - The Columbia County Sheriff's Office has identified the driver in Wednesday's crash at the intersection of Columbia Rd. and Washington Rd.

The sheriff's office identifies the driver as fifty-four-year-old Morris Morgan of Augusta. Charges against Morgan are pending.

At least one person is injured after a crash at the intersection of Columbia Rd. and Washington Rd.

The crash happened shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday. FOX54's security cameras caught the crash on video. In the video, you can see a silver car speeding on Columbia Rd. before jumping the curb at the intersection, crashing into a transformer box, and taking out a power pole.

 

According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call for a shoplifter at the Kroger on Columbia Rd. The suspect reported fled the scene in a silver Kia Optima. A deputy pursued the Kia on Columbia Rd., reportedly reaching speeds up to 80 mph. The Kia reportedly struck a pickup truck, then left the road and struck a concrete power pole, splitting it in half. The suspect was partially ejected through the windshield. The Kia also caught fire.

The pursuing deputy was able to get the suspect out of the car before fire and EMS crews arrived on the scene. The suspect was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The intersection of Washington Rd. and Columbia Rd. is shut down due to power lines laying across the road. Deputies are detouring traffic.
