north AUGUSTA , sc. (WFXG) - WHAT STARTED AS A SMALL STREAM OF WATER IS NOW TURNING INTO A BIGGER ISSUE FOR the Brigham Woods NEIGHBORHOOD. RESIDENTS HAVE BEEN REPORTING A WATER MAIN BREAK TO THE CITY FOR MONTHS, BUT THE CITY HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT.

RESIDENTS FIRST NOTICED THE BREAK IN LATE OCTOBER OF LAST YEAR. The main broke at the driveway of one resident AND AFTER WEEKS OF SATURATION, IT’S STARTED TO DAMAGE his YARD.

WORKERS FROM THE CITY HAVE COME OUT TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD TO ASSESS IT, BUT HAVE YET TO FIX THE BREAK. NOW IT’S TRICKLED DOWN THE STREET, disrupting other houses. NOT ONLY IS THERE A LOT OF WATER ON THE GROUND, RED SAND HAS STARTED WASHING OUT FROM UNDER GROUnd. Residents say that BECAUSE THE WATER IS SPOUTING OUT THROUGH THE CONCRETE, they FEAR IT WILL SOON SPREAD TO THE OTHER SIDE OF STREET.

A SURVEYOR FOX54 SPOKE WITH ESTIMATES THOUSAND OF GALLONS HAVE COME FROM THE WATER MAIN.

THEY FEAR THE OTHER SIDE OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD WILL SOON BE AFFECTED AND SAY SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE A SINKHOLE FORMS.

RESIDENTS SAY THIS ISN’T THE FIRST TIME THE CITY HAS BEEN OUT HERE FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS, BUT IT’S ALWAYS FIXED WITHIN A DAY. HOWEVER, DESPITE MANY PHONE CALLS, IT HASN’T BEEN ADDRESSED, WHICH THE CITY SUPERVISOR TOLD ONE RESIDENT IS DUE TO SHORT STAFFING.

FOX54 DID REACH OUT TO THE UTILITIES SUPERVISOR FOR THE CITY, BUT HAVE NOT YET HEARD BACK.
