Aiken High football coach "relieved" of coaching duties
AIKEN, S.C. (WFXG) - Officials with Aiken County Schools have confirmed that Aiken High School football coach Olajuwon Paige has been relieved of his coaching duties.
According to Paige's biography on the school's website, he graduated from Aiken High in 2005, before returning to coach in 2012. The district says that while he is no longer coaching, he will be an assistant athletic director and teacher at Aiken High.
"School and District administration join The Hornets' players, parents, and alumni in a continued desire to grow the football program at AHS," the district said in a statement to FOX54. "Athletic coaching leadership, plus a demonstrated ability to foster cohesiveness among coaching staff, ensure accountability among players, and capture the interest of student athletes, will be among the desired qualifications for a diverse search committee being organized with players, parents and community members to consider in identifying qualified candidates."
