COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WFXG) - Augusta University Health is asking for local subcontractors and vendors to help build its new hospital in Columbia County. The hospital says it will host an outreach event on January 25 at the Columbia County Exhibition Center from 4-6 p.m.

AU seeks subcontractors (AU Health)

AU's new hospital in Columbia County has been in the works for years. It was originally awarded a certificate of need in 2014, but that certificate was challenged by the other local hospitals in the area.

It will have 100 beds and also be a level two trauma center. In July 2021, AU told FOX54 they would keep the level-one trauma center in downtown Augusta. A level 2 trauma center, which this facility will be, initiates care and has the resources to handle most cases, but the most severe are sent to level 1 centers. The only other level two in our area is Doctor’s Hospital.

By opening this facility, AU Health hopes that it will help alleviate overcrowding at their Downtown facility.

In December, AU Health announced it has signed a letter of intent to form a partnership with Atlanta based Wellstar health System.
