FORT GORDON, Ga. (WFXG) - There’s a quote from John Quincy Adams, it reads "if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” That’s what Sgt. First Class Herbert McCarter exemplifies in his role at Fort Gordon.

His military journey began in 2007, one that took him near and far.

“I went through basic combat training at Fort Benning, Georgia, advanced individual training here in Fort Gordon, Georgia...After that, I went to Korea where I was a member of the Joint Cyber Center.” said Sgt. First Class Herbert McCarter, NCO Academy Senior Small Group Leader.

Eventually, Sgt. First Class Herbert McCarter made his way back to Fort Gordon to serve as a Noncommissioned Officer Academy Senior Small Group Leader.

"It's every little kid’s dream to grow up to be a superhero. I really feel like I found my passion here at the NCO Academy and at Fort Gordon with the ability to lead and train others…That to me, feels like a super power.” said Sgt. First Class McCarter.

He believes each day is ‘boots on the ground’ when it comes to preparing our soldiers.

"What we do in the army is hard, it’s hard on purpose. Combat is never supposed to be easy.” said Sgt. First Class McCarter.

While his job is to lead, he says in many ways, the soldiers inspire him.

"It’s one of the things I love about this job. You don’t take on the role as a Noncommissioned Officer for money, you don’t take on the role for power, you don’t take on the role for influence. You take on that role because you love leading and training soldiers.” said Sgt. First Class McCarter.

FOX54 salutes Sgt. First Class McCarter.

"We can all make things better for the army, the nation and the world…That’s something that means a lot to me.” said Sgt. First Class McCarter.
