APPLING, Ga. (WFXG) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced it is extending the closure of the West Dam day-use area on Clarks Hill Lake through January 1, 2023. The closure is so the area can be repaved.
Paving will also prevent access to Bartram Trail and the parking lot area at the entrance to the park.
Officials say there are nearby alternatives to the closed areas. They suggest using the Lake Springs and Clarks Hill recreation areas if you're looking for day-use. To access Bartram Trail they say to use Lake Springs Road at the main trailhead entrance, which is located outside of Petersburg Campground.
