AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) - Advanced voting is now underway in Richmond County for what's considered a crucial U.S. Senate run-off race, between Democratic incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker.

The run-off comes after neither candidate received fifty percent of the majority votes. A court ruling allowed voters to vote on the weekend, going against Georgia's 2021 voting law that restricted voting the day after a holiday.

"We're here today early voting on a Sunday...so, people who cannot vote nine to five, Monday through Friday...can come out today," says Francine Scott.

In response, a line wrapped around the municipal building, while folks stood in the rain and wind to make sure they cast their votes.

Berry College student, Brandin Carter says he is grateful for the opportunity. "I believe in the power of democracy that we have here in America. I think it's a beautiful thing and I think it's our civic duty if we want to see things progress and be better in our country."

A group of voters met at Telfair Street to march to the polls. They were also joined by Commissioners Jordan Johnson and Francine Scott.

"We wanted to get folks engaged and get them excited to come down and march to the polls," said Jordan Johnson.

The polls will be open for early voting until December 2nd.
