COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WFXG) - Columbia County Animal Services is working to make sure all the animals in its shelter find homes. That's why the adoption fees have been reduced for all dogs and cats.

Intake officer Daniel Mayne says the shelter is not completely full, but much like many shelters across the CSRA, they have seen an influx in owner surrenders recently. “We have a lot of pets here at the shelter right now. We’re looking for homes for all of these pets, and we just want to see them go to a new place, see them start a new chapter of their lives.”

Fees typically run up to $25 for cats and dogs, but for now, citizens are able to take home shelter pets for a little as $10 for a kitten, $15 for a dog or adult cat.

Sean Moore, who adopted a puppy Tuesday afternoon, says the adoption process was simple and quick.

“It couldn’t have been easier. The staff here is phenomenal and they make it very easy, very simple. You just come in, play with the dogs a little bit…find the one that’s suited to you, and you’re in and out pretty quickly,” Moore said, describing his adoption experience.
