WILKES COUNTY, Ga. (WFXG) - UPDATE: The GBI and Wilkes County Sheriff's Office have arrested a suspect in connection to a deadly shooting that happened earlier this week in Wilkes County.

Shortly after 1:40 p.m. Sept. 19, deputies responded to the area near Baltimore Rd. and Ashley Park Dr. Deputies found a 2021 Honda Accord parked in the intersection with seventeen-year-old Tre'Vontae Gray inside, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died on Sept. 21.

On Sept. 22, investigators arrested seventeen-year-old Kiwanis Curry, Jr. of Washington, Georgia. They have charged him with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. As of the time of this article, he is being held at the Wilkes County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.


ORIGINAL STORY: A shooting left one person in critical condition Monday in Wilkes County, according to emergency services. 

Officials say the victim was found in the back seat of a car after a shooting near the intersection of Baltimore Road and Ashley Park Drive. 

The victim was then transferred to an Augusta trauma center. 

The Wilkes County Sheriff's Department says the investigation is in its early stages.
