MARTINEZ, Ga. (WFXG) - The midterm elections are just over 50 days away. Candidates are crisscrossing the state of Georgia as the campaigns come down to the wire.

Georgia Senate Candidate Herschel Walker visited Columbia County on Wednesday as a part of a statewide bus tour. Following his visit, he talked exclusively with FOX54's Jared Eggleston about the tour and his campaign.

“What we have to do is we have to get out and meet the people,” Walker said. “They’ve almost spent $50 million against me.”

Walker is campaigning against incumbent Democrat Senator Rev. Raphael Warnock in what at times has been a heated campaign.

“Senator Warnock may not know, it is time for him to go,” Walker said to supporters Wednesday.

This campaign recently garnered national attention when the two agreed to their first face-to-face debate in Savannah.

“They’ve been telling a lot of mistruths they’ve been saying I didn’t want to debate him, he knows that is not true. I wanted to do a debate that is fair and equitable to voters,” Walker said.

One issue many experts have said will be key this election is abortion. Recently Senator Warnock has pointed out comments Walker made about a national abortion ban.

Walker tells FOX54 he would like the power to remain in the hands of the state.

“One of the things I have said is there’s not a national abortion ban, because when the supreme court ruled it took it to the states. Meaning the states can rule on different things and he needs to get it correct,” he said.

When it comes to recent legislation South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham introduced that would ban abortion after 15 weeks Walker says he would support it in his current form.

In a statement to FOX54, a spokesperson for Sen. Warnock's campaign responded to Walker's stance on abortion.

“Georgia voters will have a clear choice this fall between Reverend Warnock’s record of fighting to protect a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions and Herschel Walker, who wants to outlaw abortion, even in cases of rape, incest, or where the life of the mother is at risk and who would support a national abortion ban in the Senate.”

FOX54 has extended invitations to all candidates to come on and discuss their respective campaigns in detail.
