RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WFXG) -Richmond County has experienced 2 shootings in the span of 2 days and 2 people are dead. These shootings occurred a mile away from each other. Many residents say they are alarmed at how prevalent gun violence is becoming in the area and believe something needs to be done.

Robert Williams, owner of Alexander's Great Barbeque just a few doors down from the latest shooting location says they have seen enough. Moreover, he believes it's very concerning for the community and his business as well. "Gun violence is kind of getting a little out of hand so we need to do something about it," Williams says.

Tuesday morning, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office responded to a fatal shooting on Wheeless Road. The next day, a female was shot and killed at the Economy Inn on Deans Bridge Road. They have since charged someone in connection to the Wheeless Road, Corner Store, gas station shooting. However, the investigation remains ongoing regarding the incident at the Economy Inn.

Williams says they are used to crime in this area: primarily robberies and shootings. However, they have seen an uptake here lately. "Because of the area we're, TO BE HONEST, GUN VIOLENCE HAS ALWAYS BEEN HERE. BUT LATELY, I GUESS YOU COULD SAY I’M KIND OF HEARING A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THEM. ”

INVESTIGATORS ARE ALSO LOOKING INTO A SHOOTING that occurred ON MONDAY AT JANWICHES SANDWHICH SHOP, LESS THAN 10 MILES DOWN THE ROAD. A total of 3 SHOOTINGS IN 3 DAYS.

Resident, lANCE GRIFFIN, SAYS, THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE CAN’T DO IT ALL. HE MAINTAINS, THE COMMUNITY SHOULD ALSO RALLY TOGETHER. “IF WE CAN JUST ACTUALLY USE OUR WORDS AND COMMUNICATE TO EACH OTHER AND GET A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT THE ISSUE IS.”

We reached out to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office regarding the recent crimes but they declined comment.
