Three siblings drown in Lincoln County
LINCOLN COUNTY, Ga (WFXG) - The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office confirms to FOX54 that three siblings have drowned at the Amity Recreation Area.
Officials confirm the siblings are 3-year-old Sawyer Powell, 4-year-old Mason Powell and 22-year-old Raven Powell.
According to a Georgia DNR spokesperson, the two juvenile victims were recovered from the lake by bystanders. The third was located late Thursday evening after they brought out SONAR equipment.
The GBI and Lincoln County Sheriff's Office are now investigating what lead up to the incident.
Emily Reyes says she visits the Amity Recreation Area frequently and has never seen anything like this. She suggests this area could add life jackets for swimmers.
“maybe at the gate house, that would be a good idea, people can come in, borrow and then return them as they leave,” she suggests.
It remains unclear if the victims were wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.
FOX54 has reached out to the GBI and Lincoln County Sheriff's Office for additional information on their investigation. Check back to this story for updates as we receive them.
