AUGUSTA (WFXG) - This week we’re going to a new spot in downtown Augusta that hopes to serve as an oasis for everyone that stops by.

Pasche’s Island Soul opened their doors October 2020. Before opening their doors last October, mother and daughter duo, Betty and Paschelle Holder, were looking for the perfect location and knew it was meant to be.

Betty Holder says, “We were looking for a building, she [Paschelle] was on her laptop in one area and I was on my laptop in another area and she says, 'mommy I found the perfect place.' And I said I found the place too and we came together it was the same building.” That building is located at 307 James Brown Blvd. Betty says, “It’s funny everybody saw the roof leaking and boards on the window but I saw a finished product.”

Now Pasche’s Island Soul’s primary focus is the Holders' Trinidadian roots. Their menu features sweet and spicy salmon, curry and jerk chicken, their 'best-selling' spice rice and more. The Holders say everything is made fresh even down to the spices. Betty says they only use a few powdered herbs.

Paschelle says having a restaurant is tough but also rewarding: “It’s a challenge but it’s also a treat because we get to see people come back and say the food was excellent, the food was divine and these are the things that make a difference."

Right now, they only offer walk-up services, but they plan to fully open the dining room later this year.
