AIKEN, SC. (WFXG) - Our quest for delicious southern cuisine brings us to New Ellenton, where Dukes is serving up barbecue fit for a king.

This spot’s fried chicken and down-home classics aren't just "throne" together. It’s Uncle Danny Dukes' 45-year-old family recipes passed down from generation to generation.

Christian Judy was 4 years old when his parents opened their first restaurant and he's grown up in the family business. “Our family has grown up here and we want other people to be here with us,” he said.

“Something doesn’t have to be overly complex to be really good and that’s the essence of comfort food and southern cooking and so really that’s what we’ve gone for and what we’ve been known for so many years.”

He now owns this bit of Southern Charm and holds true to the tried and true. I’m talking about timeless original recipes. “We are known for our fried chicken, that is something we’ve won a few awards for,” Judy said.

If you’re from the South, nothing says Sunday like a good old-fashioned comfort food buffet, “My family members are very old school with how they’ve done things.”

“It’s a buffet. That’s not very common these days but traditional southern bar-b-que is buffet style so that’s kind of what they went for." "You would have, as I said, the whole family would come out for a Sunday or Saturday evening and eat then that’s where it formed and it was founded and we’ve kept that,” Judy said.

Not much has changed over the years at Dukes, and for the better. This flavorful comfort is what keeps customers coming back again and again

“It’s a real value for families and since that’s already our target it makes sense to continue that theme and so everything we’ve done has been kind of pushed toward that,” Judy said.

No matter where you are in the area, this spot is worth the dive. Dukes is located in Aiken at 4248 Whiskey Rd, Aiken, SC 29803. To find out more, click here.
