EAT.PLAY.GO. to the Netflix Christmas Light Display
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) - In a lot of ways, 2020 has been a dark year. It’s certainly one desperately in need of light. This year, Santa and his pals at Netflix have loaded up their sleigh with Christmas decorations to brighten all of downtown Augusta.
“This is a great opportunity to come out and do something that’s socially distant, physically safe, and still get to enjoy some holiday cheer,” Stefan Cupka said.
You may have noticed the new Netflix-ey lights up on the stretch between 7th and 8th Street but the city and Mayor Hardie Davis have worked with - you guessed it – Netflix. To help spread this much needed holiday cheer.
“Hope, healing, and love, faith. Opportunity for people to know that on the other side of this pandemic are even better times for us as a community and so to have Netflix spearhead Christmas lights right here in the heart of this area certainly brings a level of Christmas cheer and joy,” Major Davis said.
People from all across the CSRA have ventured to downtown Augusta to see what these lights are all about.
“It’s nice to have something that’s bright in times when people might not feel so great,” Jadien Bowyer said.
Netflix put up Christmas decorations in cities across the country, and Augusta is one of just six cities that have this little piece of magic.
“Especially on a day like today it just makes you want to go and lay down and watch a movie too,” Rebecca Joiner said.
Netflix's goal is to spread joy during these tough times in big cities and small towns throughout the holiday season.
“Not only to me as mayor but also to our citizens and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of it and so if you come here at night it lights up really well. You can take pictures and it’s just a wonderful way to say thank you.”
Whether you’re in a big city, a small town, or right here in Augusta, Netflix is here for you, delivering holiday cheer wherever "here" is for you this year.
