Couple uses a fake ID to purchase a Mercedes from an Aiken dealership
AIKEN COUNTY (WFXG) - Crescent Automotive in Aiken says a man and woman used a fake ID to steal a Mercedes from their lot.
Sales Manager Chelsea Johnson Dempsey say the couple strolled into the dealership Monday evening and presented the ID to test-drive vehicles, claiming they were going to buy one.
“They said they had a cashier’s check and they wanted to make a purchase,” Dempsey told FOX 54.
Dempsey says the Mercedes was not returned when the dealership closed at 7 pm, so they called the police and posted about the incident on Facebook, which helped to later locate the car.
“We got several tips that night from our Facebook family,” says Dempsey.
Dempsey says the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office recovered the vehicle quickly, and that the dealership owes them a thank you. Dempsey added that a few years ago someone also rode away with a vehicle, claiming they were taken it for a test drive.
She also says the car the couple drove to Crescent Automotive was also stolen.
