THOMSON (WFXG) - A Thomson woman is dead after officials say the victim's husband, a 41-year-old white male, told them he was cleaning his gun and had an accidental discharge of firearm.

According to the Thomson Police Department, on Aug. 18 around 6 p.m. officials were dispatched to a home on the 300 block of Thomas Ave. in reference to a person down with a gunshot wound. 

As deputies arrived they located 40-year-old Michelle Ansley inside the home with a single gunshot wound to her leg. 

McDuffie County Fire/EMS worked to render aid to Ansley and transported her to a hospital to be treated for her injury. 

The Deputy Coroner for McDuffie County says Ansley was pronounced dead at 6:59 p.m. 

Ansley worked at the senior center in McDuffie County. Her co-workers say the senior citizens loved her and she will be greatly missed.

"Michelle had one of those very outgoing personalities. She got along with everybody," says Linda Lynch, Transit Director for the Senior Center.
