RICHMOND COUNTY, GA (WFXG) – Flooding is a repetitive problem in certain areas. Families on Wimberly and Avery Drives in Augusta, worry about having mold problems in their homes due to the amount of water that can come in when it rains.

“We’re concerned with just the water sitting that it’s going to cause mold and mildew down there. Especially with the baby,” Payton Gooch, Augusta resident, tells FOX 54.

Gooch says she’s lived in her home for about two years, and that the basement has flooded three times. Today, puddles from yesterday’s storm were on the floor, and there were also watermarks on the walls.

Gooch says last time it flooded, thousands of dollars worth of damage had to be done to her basement.

She estimates that the water was about five feet high in her backyard yesterday, saying that the water level was higher than her fence. The flooding pushed leaves, sticks, and mud into the fence, leaving Gooch with a mess to clean up.

Gooch says she learned not to leave her dog outside when it rains, because of how high the water can potentially get.
