“A Place to Dream” delivers 1,000th bed
AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - "A Place to Dream" is an initiative by the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta to make sure that every child has a bed to sleep in. Today, the program reached a milestone delivering bed number 1,000.
A group of kids went to school thinking it was just a normal day until they arrived home to find brand new beds in their rooms. "Them other beds, they weren't like these, but I love these beds," said Vernard Freeman who received a bed today.
"It's a big day to kind of celebrate that milestone and get those many more children ahead that needs these beds so," said President and CEO of Family YMCA of Greater Augusta Danny McConnell.
To continue to support the community with the gift of a good night's sleep the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta will be teaming up with the Division of Family and Children Services and the juvenile court system.
McConnel wants to partner with those groups because they work closely with families. "It gives us the chance to volunteer man power and go out and raise the funds and come in and work with these families that have already been identified in the greatest need."
McConnell tells me they are still looking for more volunteers to help get additional beds delivered. If you'd like to help out, click here.
