AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - The savory smell of chili drifted through the hallways of Children’s Hospital of Georgia, all for Donate Life Month and Pediatric Transplant Week.

Augusta University employees sold chili and sweet treats to raise money and awareness about the importance of organ donation. Hundreds of people in Georgia are on the waiting list to receive an organ. Last year, 6 pediatric patients received kidney transplants right here at Children’s Hospital.

Martha Stipsits, Transplant Administrator at Augusta University Health says, “Any time a child is sick, this is so alarming for parents to have to deal with. As the primary caregivers, generally items like figuring out transportation, lodging is so hard. So we do have social workers and childlife specialists that help with those types of opportunities for patients and their families.”

Friday, there will be activities in the lobby of Children’s Hospital to celebrate pediatric transplant week. Call the transplant office if you’d like to donate.
